Profile
The Plant Park in West View, Cobh—more commonly known as West View Park—is one of the town’s most scenic and peaceful green spaces. Despite its modest size, it offers arguably the finest viewpoint in Cobh.
Some of its highlights include:
- The iconic view – The park overlooks the famous Deck of Cards, the colourful terraced houses climbing the steep hill, with St Colman’s Cathedral rising dramatically behind them. This is one of Ireland’s most photographed urban scenes.
- A quiet garden setting – Landscaped with lawns, ornamental planting, shrubs and seating, it’s a relaxing place to take a break while exploring the steep streets of Cobh.
- Garden of Remembrance – The park includes a memorial garden dedicated to the signatories of the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic, making it both a place of reflection and local historical significance.
- Excellent photo opportunities – Because the park sits opposite the Deck of Cards rather than on the hill itself, it provides the classic postcard view that many photographers seek.
- Accessible stop – It’s only a few minutes’ walk uphill from the town centre and cruise terminal, making it a popular stopping point for visitors exploring Cobh on foot.
The park is also the focus of planned public realm improvements designed to make it even more accessible while preserving its role as one of Cobh’s premier viewpoints.
