Unlock your inner storyteller at the Cobh Trad Fest 2026. Join acclaimed singer-songwriter and visual artist Jasmin O’Davidson for an engaging, hands-on workshop dedicated to the art of the folk song.
As part of our mission to celebrate living culture, this session is designed to help participants find confidence in their creative and authentic voice. Whether you are a total beginner who has never written a lyric or an experienced musician looking to refine your craft, this workshop offers a supportive environment to explore the foundations of folk music.
What to Expect
In this 90-minute session, Jasmin breaks down the songwriting process into simple, practical steps. Drawing on her extensive experience—including her studies at RSA with Scottish producer Rosie Bans and her award-winning work with the band Firefly—she will guide you through:
- Techniques & Frameworks: Explore the common structures used in traditional and modern folk songs.
- Creative Lyric Writing: Learn how to turn observations and stories into compelling verses.
- Melody Ideas: Discover how to craft melodies that resonate.
- Hands-on Exercises: Participate in practical activities designed to help you write a “wee folk song” of your own by the end of the session.

About the Facilitator
Jasmin O’Davidson is a versatile performer and co-writer involved in numerous music projects in Ireland and abroad. Known for her work “folkifying” modern music and her award-winning original compositions like “Hibernation,” Jasmin is dedicated to inclusive teaching that fosters creative confidence. When not performing or painting, she can be found spending time with her horses.
